New variety: unlikely to rise in Karnataka
Although seven of the UK returnees have been found to rate the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 positively, experts say it is unlikely that Karnataka will see an increase beyond what it has already seen.
This is mainly because nearly half of the state’s population has already been exposed to COVID-19 and has developed immunity. This immunity is likely to work against the new strain as well. Furthermore, none of the seven UK returnees’ primary and secondary contacts have tested positive for the new strain to date. This is a good indication for the state, experts said.

Health workers follow the majority of the 156 UK returnees
Most of the 156 people who had come to Telangana from the UK and could not be found were eventually tracked down by the Department of Health with the help of police.
They could not be traced earlier because their addresses and phone numbers were incorrect. The foreign returnees had strayed from the addresses given on their passports or given UK phone numbers, incorrect phone numbers or left their phones switched off.
