24-hour helpline launched to mark World Cancer Day

GEM Hospitals has set up an exclusive 24-hour helpline for cancer (95002 00600) and sent an email to cancerinfo@geminstitute.in on the occasion of World Cancer Day on February 4th.

A group of experts will work with the hospital to provide guidance on treatment and provide financial support if necessary. Online counseling and cancer screening are also offered. The founder of the hospital, Dr. C. Palanivelu said, “Esophageal cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in the country. Symptoms are vague and most cases are only identified at a very advanced stage. ”

A minimally invasive surgery center was also inaugurated on the occasion. The hospital’s CEO, S. Asokan, said the facility had achieved a milestone of 1,000 successful esophageal cancer surgeries through laparoscopy. The center is an exclusive department that deals with all cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and offers scholarship programs for minimally invasive cancer surgery for surgeons.

The hospital had proposed offering virtual panel discussions on social media every Sunday, said hospital director P. Senthilnathan. The center would also run free screening camps across South India year round.
