Tamil Nadu, who is entering its 17th polio-free year, is scheduled to vaccinate 70.26 lakh children under the age of five during the impulse polio vaccination campaign on January 31.
According to a press release, 43,051 booths will be set up in all primary health centers, government hospitals, integrated child development centers, lunches, schools and other key locations. The stands are open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. All children up to 5 years of age receive the vaccine. Transit kiosks will operate in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines at major bus stops, train stations, toll booths, checkpoints and airports. Mobile teams will administer the drops to children who live in remote, inaccessible areas and with a migrant background.
Children recently vaccinated on the routine schedule and newborns should receive the oral polio vaccine.
To identify the missing children, all vaccinated children are marked on the left little finger. Private paediatricians and private hospitals will also administer the drops on election day.
The health department will also cover children of migrant workers. More than 3,000 government vehicles were deployed and about two government department lakh employees and volunteers were drafted.
