Prime Minister V. Narayanasamy on Saturday accused the center of overlooking cabinet recommendations in appointing nominee lawmaker T. Vikraman to fill the post created by KG Shankar’s death.
At a press conference following the death of nominated legislature Shankar on January 17, the Prime Minister said the government had recommended the name of the youth congress president Illayaraja for the post.
The center unilaterally appointed BJP Vice President Vikraman as the nominated legislator, ignoring the cabinet recommended name.
Regarding the implementation of the Motor Vehicle Act, the Prime Minister said the government wanted to implement the regulations gradually, but the transportation department had been pressured to implement the law.
“LG threatened officials”
He accused the Lt. Governor for abusing their powers to threaten transportation officials with issuing the notice.
The Prime Minister also criticized the Lt. Governor for levying a higher tax on alcohol than the Cabinet recommended. The higher tax structure has resulted in a decrease in revenue, he added.
