PM Modi unveils key projects in Tamil Nadu

The canal is important for irrigation in the Cauvery Delta districts of Tamil Nadu. Modernization of this canal will be commenced at a cost of £ 2,640 crore and will result in an improvement in the water carrying capacity of the canals.

Mr. Modi inaugurated the fourth railway line between #Chennai Beach and Attipattu. This 22.1 km stretch, which was built at a cost of £ 293.40 million, crosses the Chennai and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu and will facilitate traffic from the Chennai port.

He opened the railroad electrification of a single line section in Villupuram-Cuddalore-Mayiladuthurai-Thanjavur and Mayiladuthurai-Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu. The £ 423 Crore project electrified the 228km route.

Electrifying this route would allow traffic to flow freely without changing traction between Chennai Egmore and Kanniyakumari and would save £ 14.61 per day in fuel costs, an official press release said.

Mr. Modi also unveiled the cornerstone for the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras Discovery Campus. The campus is being built in Thaiyur near #Chennai in the first phase on an area of ​​2 lakh square meters at an estimated price of 1,000 crore.
