ISL | East Bengal salvages a draw with FC Goa

SC East Bengal missed a number of scoring opportunities before beating a 10-man Goa 1-1 in an ISL match at Fatorda Stadium on Friday. Igor Angulo gave Goa the lead towards the end of the first half before Daniel Fox equalized for East Bengal in the second half to help them take a point.

East Bengal had a chance to change the goal line in the first minute when they received a penalty. East Bengal left defender Narayan Das was overthrown by Goa defender Mohamed Ali and asked the referee to point the point. However, Anthony Pilkington gave fans in East Bengal a heartache when he sent his attempt far.

The Gaurs quickly regrouped and nearly made the break in the fifth minute when Angulo cleared the ball in the East Bengal half but failed to defeat goalkeeper Debjit Majumder.

Goa defenders found silky East Bengal striker Bright Enobakhare was a little too hot with the ball when the Nigerian passed his challengers in the 27th minute to release Pilkington in front of goal. But the Irish midfielder was sloppy again.

The breakthrough

Goa then found the breakthrough in the 39th minute when Angulo made no mistake after receiving a nice pass from compatriot Alberto Noguera who split East Bengal’s defense and found the former in the right place in the East Bengal box.

East Bengal made a strong comeback after the break, creating a lot more opportunity, but its completion left much to be desired. Eventually it fell to veteran defender Fox to find the equalizer after a Pilkington corner.

Goa was reduced to 10 men in the 65th when its captain Edu Bedia was sent off for a second booking, but East Bengal did not take advantage of the numerical advantage.

The result: FC Goa (Igor Angulo 39) played against East Bengal 1 (Daniel Fox 65).

Saturday game: Mumbai City versus NEUFC, 7.30 p.m.
