Asad flays Centre for ‘slashing’ budget for Ministry of Minority Affairs

Indian President Asaduddin Owaisi, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslims (AIMIM), on Saturday criticized the center for reducing the allocation of funds for the Ministry of Minority Affairs, including funds earmarked for educational programs.

On a Twitter thread, Mr Owaisi said the center had cut the budget by £ 1,024 billion from last year, noting that allocations in educational programs like the Maulana Azad National Fellowship for minority students have been cut.

“According to the revised estimate, the Maulana Azad National Fellowship has decreased by 75 crore for the minority student student program, 25 crore for the free coaching program, and 8 crore for the interest subsidy on educational loan for study abroad,” Mr. Owaisi tweeted, despite the fact that he tweeted underlined £ 2 million cut for students taking public service exams. “The cut for education programs is £ 110. Skill development and livelihood programs have cut allocations by £ 175 million, including £ 60 million for skills development initiatives. “(Sic)

The Hyderabad MP said the allocation for the Nai Manzil program, which aims to include early school leavers in formal education, has been reduced by £ 60 billion. He also tweeted that the funding allocation for the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation had been reduced.

He reiterated his call for scholarships to be demand-driven and tweeted that the government had cut allocations for grants with merit, pre- and post-matric scholarships. “For these three programs, the budget estimate for 2020-21 was 2265 cr. As of December 31, only 436 crores had been spent. From 1330 Cr for preschool, only 204 Cr were spent. Only 127 were spent for 535 crore for Post-Matric and only 105 were spent against 400 crore for MCM, ”he tweeted.

“The revised allocation of £ 4,005 crore represents only 0.12% of the revised budget estimate of total spending by the Union government. This is 1/8 of 1% of total government. Expenses, ”he added.
