Assam Assembly Elections 2021 | Rahul Gandhi to kick off Congress campaign on February 14

His rally in Sivasagar follows a “Bus Yatra” that the party started to “save Assam”.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is due to launch the party’s campaign for the upcoming general election in Assam on Sunday.

He would hold a rally in Sivasagar, east Assam, near a historic field from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election campaign in January.

“We expect large participation in the mega-rally in Sivasagar, the first of four that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has planned in as many strategic locations before the formal election campaign begins,” said the president of the state party, Ripun Bora.

He said Priyanka Vadra would address some of the other planned rallies.

Mr. Gandhi’s visit would follow a “bus yatra” that the state unit launched on Friday to raise support for its “Axom Basaon Ahok (Come on, let’s save Assam)” campaign.

The yatra, which was launched from four regions, includes a two-week tour for senior leaders with the aim of meeting voters and discussing their complaints and problems.

One yatra each would be presided over by MPs Pradyut Bordoloi and Gaurav Gogoi, MLA and the chairman of the Legislative Party of Congress, Debabrata Saikia, and the President of the Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev.

“Assam is facing a serious crisis today. Peace and prosperity are both threatened by the BJP. We have to go to the people to get a new idea of our future and to save Assam, ”said Bordoloi.

Congress has formed a major alliance with perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front and four other parties.
